Anish Kapoor - Lisson Gallery - The Body and the blood

When first looking at this piece by Kapoor, it is hard to establish what exactly the artist is attempting to portray. On first glance it appears to cognate a murder scene, as if someone was executed in front of the piece by some ghastly knives causing the blood to create a spatter of stains on the canvas behind. This is especially gruesome as the work is not restricted to the canvas but continues further by overflowing off the wall from the support and trailing onto the floor. The artist, known primarily for creating sculptures, has used silicone, fiber-glass and gauze to create this piece, not fully moving away from his usual sculptural background. He has chosen to create this piece using warm, blood-like tones to mimic the bodily fluid. His inspiration for exhibition was blood and organic matter (Waters, 2020)
